Important Self Help Skills

Please help your child to practice tieing their shoes and tucking in their shirts correctly and independently at night as part of their nightly homework time.   It is very important that your child knows how to do both of these self help skills on their own to make our classroom day run smoothly.  Thanks in advance for your help with this important issue!

First Week of School!

We had a great first week in school learning our class rules and procedures.  Our focus this year is on 3 important expectations to guide us to success.  These words are ready, responsible, and respectable.  Every day your child is expected to come to school ready to learn with all of the necessary supplies and the correct uniform.  Each child must be responsible for their own actions and choices.  Please encourage your child to tell you what they did at school each day, and discuss their daily behavior report on the monthly calendar. Please initial and return your child's calendar and homework in their communication folder each morning. Place any money sent to school in your child's folder, preferably in an envelope or ziploc bag.  Please place their name and the purpose for the money when you send it in as well.  This will help your child to be responsible as well since they will be expected to turn in their communication folder each morning when they arrive.  Finally, please talk to and model appropriate manners at school.  For example, saying "please" and "thank you" or "yes m'am" and "no m'am".  Have a wonderful weekend!

Open House 2013!

Special thanks to all of the parents and students who came out to visit our class for Open House. My name is Mrs. Devonne Banks, and I am excited to have the opportunity to work with your child this year.  I am a wife and mother of 3 children: an 11th grade son, 9th grade son, and a 3rd grade daughter.   I have been teaching for 13 years, and have spent every year except one teaching kindergarten.  My favorite color is blue which I'm sure you can tell from your class visit, and I love spending time at the beach. Reading and Writing is my passion, and I hope to build a love for reading in all of my students!  My goal is to provide a safe and supportive learning environment for your child to grow and learn this year.  I believe every student can reach their highest performance when we work together.  My motto is parent + teacher = student success!   I am looking forward to a great year working with your child and family.  One more day and we are ready to blast off into Kindergarten!
